Inönü is a district connected to Eskişehir, located 36 km away from the city center. The name \"Inönü\" comes from İsmet İnönü, the 2nd President of Turkey. The district is situated on the Istanbul-Eskişehir railway and the Bozüyük-Kütahya highway. Since it's not far from Eskişehir, many government employees such as those working in banks, health centers, and schools reside in Eskişehir and commute to Inönü on a daily basis.
\nAfter the settlement of the Romans in Anatolia, Inönü became part of the Byzantine Empire in AD 395. It's known that the ancient name of Inönü during the Byzantine period was Basilika. During the Ottoman era, Inönü was the site of the First and Second Battles of İnönü in the War of Independence. The village of İnönü, which was occupied by the Greeks in 1920 and liberated from occupation on September 4, 1922, became a village affiliated with the Söğüt district of Bilecik province in 1923. İnönü, which was separated from Söğüt in 1926 and became a township center affiliated with Bozüyük district, was connected to the central district of Eskişehir in 1963. In 1987, it became a district. The Turkish Aeronautical Association's İnönü Training Center is located here.
